Elon Musk’s First startup (neither SpaceX nor Tesla)

In 1999 four young men founded the very first online bank(X.com). It was initially funded by the co-founders Elon musk and Greg Kouri. The online bank became a great success and laid the foundation stone for online banking transactions. The company later got merged with Confinity Inc. and was renamed Paypal.

Yes! Paypal world’s most famous online transaction app was founded by Elon Musk but for now, he only owns two startups(Tesla and SpaceX).

Elon Musk is a birth born genius while building the website he didn’t have any formal education all he has was a desktop and a few coding books. He bought the URL for his website when he was just 17 and named it X.com.

Musk and Bill Harris, then-president and CEO of X.com, disagreed about the potential future success of the money transfer business and Harris left the company in May 2000. In October of that year, Musk decided that X.com would terminate its other internet banking operations and focus on PayPal. This month witnessed the biggest turnaround for Elon Musk as his Cofounders conspired against him while he was on a vacation and took over the managing positions overthrowing Musk. That was the end of Musk’s fortune with Paypal as he went on to sell all his shares with the company.

In 2002 soon after leaving Paypal, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturer, and space transport services company, of which he is CEO, CTO, and lead designer. In 2004, he joined electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors, Inc. In 2008 Musk found himself in the very same situation he was in 2002 when he left Paypal as during the world economic crisis both his companies faced a situation of insolvency and he had to decide whether he’ll take the risk of putting money in both companies and which may lead to making both the multinationals dissolution or liquidate the risk by putting all the money in one and letting go of the other.
